…That Extra Touch

Most wedding receptions will have a DJ or live music to provide background ambience and to entertain the guests. But think back to the truly memorable wedding receptions that you have attended. Can you pinpoint what it was that made these occasions so special? Odds are, it was some sort of special entertainment that was provided by the insightful Bride and Groom. Entertainment possibilities run the gamut from tasteful to funky and are limited only by your imagination!

Photo or Video Montage
A photo montage projected onto a large screen at your reception is always a huge hit with guests. These shows visually tell the story of the Bride and Groom - growing up separately, their meeting, their dating life, the engagement, and other entertaining stories. Guests mention again and again what a delight the show was for them. These types of shows are produced by specialty companies and may also be generated by some videographers.

Memory Preservation
With the advent of new technologies, new possibilities have become available. One that we have come across recently is preserving wedding photographs and video onto DVDs. The DVD format can hold a huge amount of data. This means that virtually all of your wedding photos and video can be transferred to DVD, so that you can view them on your television in addition to in your wedding album. It is also very convenient and inexpensive to make additional copies to share.

Magicians, Tarot Cards, etc.
You can hire magicians, jugglers, balloon artists, tarot card or palm readers. This type of interactive entertainment is always a great hit with everyone - adults and children. These professionals generally have material prepared for all different age groups, so don't let preconceived ideas limit your choices! Hey, the Magic Castle in Los Angeles does nothing but magic, and its been a very popular and successful venue for many many years.

Strolling Musicians
What about having strolling live musicians entertaining guests and providing background music for the first hour or two of the reception? The beginning of the reception is the time when guests are mingling, many are visiting and having conversations with each other for the first time in years. Or members of the Bride's family are getting to know members of the Grooms family. What a great time for relatively soft non-invasive music. Nice choices for strolling musicians are violinists, mariachis, guitarists or mandolinists.

Dance Lessons
Another idea is to provide entertainment that works together with your music. We've been to receptions where dance lessons were provided - line dancing, hula dancing, salsa. There are bound to be types of dancing that you have been interested in or that may have something to do with your or your groom's culture. What a great way to help your guests to get to know each other better while having fun learning a new dance!

Children's Entertainment
And what about the kids? Having a children's entertainer at the reception will not only be a delight for the kids, but will free the parents up to enjoy a few hours of quality adult time. Professional child entertainers have organized games, stories, balloons, bubbles, piñatas, etc that will keep kids interested for hours. Most magicians also have special children's shows available. If your reception facility can accommodate it, a bounce house will keep children occupied for the entire reception. A bounce house doesn't require too much space, it is relatively noise free, and it is very affordable entertainment for the children.

Wedding Website
Having a wedding website is definitely the way to go! With a website, your friends and family can simply go online for details about your wedding rather than calling you. As much as you will love to talk about your wedding, it will lose its thrill when you find yourself repeating the same information to the 35th caller. Load your website with everything you can think of: maps to the wedding and reception sites, a list of recommended local hotels for your out-of-town guests, information about your selected bridal registry stores, your program for the wedding and reception, background information about you and your groom to help the other family members to get to know you, engagement photos, etc.

Wedding Gown Preservation
How and where will you store your beautiful wedding gown once the festivities are over? You can't simply hang it in your closet...even if it is in a garment bag. To best protect your gown from the elements, we recommend that you have it professionally preserved. This is a relatively straightforward process. First your gown is spot treated and thoroughly cleaned. It is then shaped with a full bust form for the top and filling for the sleeves. The gown is wrapped in acid-free materials and is placed in a dust free preservation box, generally with a transparent display window. Local bridal shops can handle this preservation process for you.
